Went and saw the newest potter movie last night. I was amazed with the number of previews that showed before it.. I think it was around 20 minutes worth. Not complaining, just seemed like they tacked on a few extra this time. As for the movie itself. I liked it. They changed a few things that made the book into a better movie. They had to cut a lot of sub-plots, but that isn't surprising considering the weight of the book this is coming from. They made one change at the end that I think weakened Harry's character. Also the way the scene was shot they missed a huge chance for some of the other characters to shine. And I was very disappointed they didn't put in the funeral.

So I say it was good, the best one that has come out yet and kept the theme of the books getting darker and darker.

Wow.. that was a weekend.

Got to meet Jim Butcher and Seanan Mcguire in the same weekend. Not to mention See Concerts by Vixy and Tony, and Tom Smith! Also I picked up on another Filker I had not previously know about named S. J. Tucker.

Got to see a Q&A with Jim Butcher. A reading of Seanan upcoming novel (I am so buying it). Wow.. just wow.

I will probably be going back to Duckon next year, it is a small con, but worth it.

So it is official, I get to keep working till the end of Aug, and possibly longer depending on how things go. So that is my personal good news.

Ok so I have been working on textures for liqueur bottles and thought I would share the labels with you all seeing as they probably won't be that readable in the animations, and I put some time into them. Let me know what you think of them.

So below are the 2 main characters of my first short animation. They still have a bunch of stuff the needs to be done to them before I can get them animated correctly (facial rigging so they can make expressions besides that blank stare, cloths need to be rigged to move with the character.) Then there is still a bunch of stuff to setup in the scene it's self. So still lots to do this week. :)

Ok so I just finished off the second blender book I was trying to get through by the end of the month. So Huzzah I made that goal.

So now I am to the point where it is time to really create my own artwork and get some animation going. Expect random picture posts of what I am working on. I still have a lot to learn about blender, but those books have given me a fairly solid place to start from. Also I need to practice what I learned to make sure it sticks.

So today has been pretty good.

I finished all the tutorial stuff our of one of my blender books, now just reading to finish it off. It has been a blast and really eye opening just in what I am noticing around me in everyday life.

For those that don't know my company let me go at the beginning of the year. So I have had plenty of time to work on 3d modeling. I hope to actually have something to show in a month or so that I can point at and go "Look what I did". Also while I am not against the idea of a job right now, I am also not searching very activly. I have let 3 recruiters know that my resume is up for grabs and I updated my resume on Dice.com. Other then that I haven't really done anything. Needless to say I was slightly surprised when I got 3 calls today about jobs. 2 of them are far enough away that I don't think it would be worth it (one at least 45 minute commute one way, the other closer to 1 and 1/2 commute one way). The other one I think would rock. It is only a contract job, but it would be a very nice site to be able to put in my resume and brag about, not to mention it would pay really well for a few months which is always a nice bonus.

This has been a general update. It it were an emergency I probably would have used caps or something.

Tonight we are going to be watching a movie called Ice Pirates. Film starts at 7pm. If you let us know you are coming dinner is included.

Morning was going fine, then stupid and frustrating things happen right before a phone conference that had nothing to to with it. Now after an animated converstation with boss... things are a bit better. Still frustrated.. but actually have hope boss man might finally take my advice.

In Arizona for a conference, made it here safe, flights went really smoothly.. makes me a little worried that the flights home are going to be like... but hey this one was fine.

Other news.. Seems that some time this morning our Test machine crashed and burned and is not booting.. Yeah, they don't like it when I leave town. Thankfully it is just the test machine and it can afford to be down for a week. More disturbing is a random change in the ip address of the email we use. Need to send out some questions about that.

Why do computers always break when I am away from them. *sigh* But at least I am at the conference.. time to make some new friends. Oh and sleep.. I didn't sleep much last night.. and I started moving at like 4:30 this morning.

Wow.. so this last week my work schedule has been really strange. I start working about midnight, load test the servers for 5 hours, then go to bed and work from noon till 5ish (or later).

Oddly it hasn't been horrible. Definitely different. I do feel like I am getting more sleep..even thought I know I am getting less. Strange effect of getting up 1/2 way through the normal day.

Movies!

So Went to see 2 movies over the last few weeks.

Hulk: Who doesn't love the this giant green ball of joy. Ok so the people that he smashes... but hey no one is perfect. I thought this movie was really well done, and I am very glad that I got to see it in theater. Edward Norton was a perfect for Banner. He was properly scrawny (well defined but still scrawny). I give it 2 giant green thumbs up.

Deathrace: This is exactly what it claims to be. They said it right in the movie: "Its all about the fast cars, and hot girls." Oh and death.. lots of death with just a touch of revenge thrown in there. With that being said.. there was a plot. Also while watching the races I had to think that the creators played Mario Cart a lot. Short cuts, have to run over "lit symbols" (or boxes) to power up the weapons and defenses. It made me chuckle at some very improper times. Over all I call it a good movie.

Friday's Can suck

This whole week has sucked work wise.

Tuesday night I find out that we are having problems with our phone system.. So I take a bit of time that night to trouble shoot it. Think I get it working properly. Wednesday morning, find out the fix I put in now makes it work for those it wasn't working for before.. but breaks it for other people. After a day of trouble shooting we finally get something that seems to be working. Thursday is more research into what we could do to make things like that not happen again. (still looking into it.)

Then Friday hit.

Our firewall/load-balancer throws a drive, which brings it down. This take's all of our websites down. There was a board meeting going on. They were giving a demo of the site. I have to sub a different machine in for our gateway... come to find out I don't have all the programs on it that it needs. This leads to working till ~midnight getting the new gateway setup.

So now my bosses are disappointed in me (So am I.. I should have been able to recover it in less then 1/2 an hour) I am totally pissed that I never moved over a new system that the gateway was doing to it's backup machine (which is why it took so long) and that the files I did have were about two to 3 weeks old, which in this development means I had to change about 1/2 of the files.

So work wise this week can go suck an egg. (Still love where I work, just been a stressful week)
